The water here is generally very low in harmful bacteria. People associate the brown water with pollution and that is not the case. The brown is the silt that gets churned up. After large rains (like that ever happens) the runoff from storm drains runs right into the Gulf...no filtration of any kind. Then the levels go up. The GLO has a program here called Beach Watch and they have several monitoring stations along the coast and post their info. You can find it here:
