Texas Newcomer seeking advice about Hurricane Surf

hey All,

I grew up here in Texas and first learned to surf in Surfside (early 80s), loved it so much, I moved to California to live the surfing dream (Seal Beach) since '86 but recently moved back to Texas - Lake Travis area and I need your advice on surfing Texas...

It looks like Gustav will likely enter the Gulf Saturday, and based on forecasted direction should pump a groundswell into Central Texas. I know that for chubasco's passing east, that can mean offshore winds -- so I am ...

Artificial Reef - Mustang Island

Check out this proposed Artificial Surf Reef for Coco Beach Florida.

The Reef would be placed in 20 foot deep water. For us approximated 500 yards off the beach. Quite a paddle. BUT even a three foot swell would produce some excellent belly high waves. Both lefts and rights. A nice peak for easy take offs and a deeper area in the middle in case someone eats it on the take off. The wave would peel approximately 100' yards and then diminish. i for one , hope and pray for the safety of all u.s. citizens and property..

let us hope and pray that the storm doesnt destroy much in the way of property and we do NOT see loss of lives...

for the moment it appears we have a chance for some good surf possibly monday,,maybe tuesday,,,and for the moment it apppears ...

My big brother and very best friend in life Glenn got popped by what we think was a stingray on Wednesday while surfing by the pier. It left a nice hole in his foot, and yesterday his foot swelled up three times its normal size. Today it had spread to his knee and he had to have surgery at Victoria Citizens to relieve the pressure so he doesn't get compartment's, and is now in the ICU recovering. We're not sure if it is poison from the stingray or bacterial from the water. He is going to ...

the storm developed so far north in the gulf it will be touch and go as to wheather or not we see much swell ...again, if any..

i hope we get something from the T.S.

its not totally flat..

surf is still somewhat choppy and water is brown...from hurricane/rains/water run off along the coast and the southerly wind direction...

lets hope for some more southeast/east wind flow..and our water shoulc clean up in appearance..

another mild day at the beach...enjoy it if you can...

surf is a "little" cleaner...it is more surfable now than the last two days in terms of chop..

still choppy but not as bad..more guys out and a few decent waves..

waist to chest..with bigger peaks..some waves are punchy..

Anyone willing to make a call for the weekend?

Thought about coming down from s.a. but reports have it at 3 ft for saturday.... I cant see how it is going to be just 3 ft this weekend. I will probably be in town visiting with the fam anyways, but it makes the trip a lot more enjoyable when I know I am going to catch some waves when i get there.
