Just wondering how the water was down there. This will be my first time surfing the TX coast. Are there polution problems(bacteria, chemical). I had heard(rumor) from people while growing up in FL. When the heard I was moving they were like, "bro, there are now waves in TX and the water is nasty". I told them I was gonna send them some pics.

The water this weekend might be sandy green. Mustang Island usually has the best water, BUT the winds are to be s-sw that makes it brown.

The water here is generally very low in harmful bacteria. People associate the brown water with pollution and that is not the case. The brown is the silt that gets churned up. After large rains (like that ever happens) the runoff from storm drains runs right into the Gulf...no filtration of any kind. Then the levels go up. The GLO has a program here called Beach Watch and they have several monitoring stations along the coast and post their info. You can find it here: https://gisweb1.glo.state.tx.us/website/beachwatch/viewer.htm
Also the local chapter of Surfrider has a link as well as other great info:

We do get really good surf but don't tell...we like the lineups small Wink
