9'0" Takayama 2+1 - Noseride and turn- Said to be the best of both worlds in longboards--

Question- Which boards are similar or just like this board-- I am looking at a Robert August board...is the "What I Ride" board similar to the Takayama in performance.....Any help would be greatly appreciated.

the takayama will have less rocker in the nose and you will nose dive and or call it pearl.
which is the main weakness to those boards..."lack" of nose rocker. in the takayama...

i used to sell those boards in my stores in houston 20 plus years ago and quit selling them due to that very reason.

Hope you have a GREAT DAY!

unfortunately, you will have to experiment...with time you will find the board that works FOR YOU.

we all have different styles, body shapes etc...

as your surfing progresses so will the board of choice...
the option for the early stages is in my opinion, to find a board that will catch lots of waves...and still have some turning ability.
i dont believe you want a board that will nose dive often due to it NOT having a decent nose rocker....flat noses will make you pearl.

time in the water will give you more of a feeling of what suits your personal needs...

there is not ONE perfect answer...because we are all so very different..

floatation

longer rides

turning ability(not too loose)

good rocker so you dont nose dive

key ingrediants for basic begining board riding.

Thanks for the reply--

1. Floatation
2. Turning ability, but not too loose.
3. LONGER rides Very Happy
4. Less pearling or nose dives

Sounds great---- Is the RA What I Ride 2+1 that we discussed going to pretty much fit the bill on the above mentioned qualitites?? If so then that is my board! Very Happy

Hey Mike. I have a Robert August 10'0 Mike Doyle Noserider that you can try out. Has a lot of nose rocker on it, doesn't turn as well as my 9'6 Takayama, but Noserides better. Your welcome to try them out any time so you can get the feel of a traditional longboard as opposed to your Superboard. If it were me, I would get that Retro Series Robert August in Chris's store. That is a heck of a deal, and I think it'd be a great board for you to get started on traditional longboarding once again as opposed to the shortboard style of the Superboard. I'll be out this coming Saturday and possibly Sunday depending on wave conditions. Don't care what the weather is like. Talk to you later bud.

As I said on El Ride rocker is the most important aspect of surfboard design in my opinion. It's a little more complicated than just saying "Rocker" though. Basically 3 aspects to rocker (keeping it relatively simple). Nose rocker, tail rocker and the rocker through the middle of the board.

Nose rocker will keep the board from pearling, but it also has a lot to do with the way a board nose rides.

Tail rocker affects the way a board turns, but also fits into the noseriding equation with the effect it has on how the board fits into the wave when you're on the tip.

The rocker throught the middle of the board affects paddling in a big way. flatter boards paddle faster and go down the line easier in a straight line. curvier boards kind of plow more when you're paddling, and need to be pumped more to get going real fast. It also affects the way a board goes up to the lip. Curvier boards seem to turn up the face easier, flatter boards are harder to do that on, losing speed more going up to the lip.

Just personal opinions / observations. Everybody has a different approach, so someone else's style might make everything I said not necessarily true.
