| So I'm a transplant (moved to Austin after living in New Zealand) and have never been able to work a surf in the Gulf yet. I've tried twice only to arrive too late. I'm chomping at the bit though to have a session. I desperately need a little help in finding the best place to be and knowing when to throw the boards in the car and go. Can anyone help? I don't want to step on any toes, and understand I'm the outsider, but I'm also a landlocked surfer and am openly asking for sympathy. I hope everyone got some ysterday. The pictures look like I missed it again.
Many thanks Hutch | |

| Hutch,
Welcome to Texas! There are two basic elements to predicting surf here in Texas, Clouds and Cows. If you look up and see Clouds racing from Southeast to Northwest, there is Surf on the way ! If you drive to a near by ranch and see the Cows laying down with their Heads pointing Southeast and thier business end pointing Northwest, there WAS Surf. Some time between the two, you will want to make the trip to Port A.

| Hutch, Here is a cam. http://www.corpusbeach.com/portacam2.htmIt does not always give an accurate indicator, but at least it will give you some idea. Chris is very modest, he can forecast very well. Give him a call. Come on down ! CB | |

| I'm in San Antonio and usually make the drive down solo so could make room and splitting gas is not a bad thing these days. The cams are a great indicator as well as the weather links that can be found at http://www.surfrider.org/texas/links.html#Sites | |

| Welcome to the Texas Gulf, Hutch--
No worries at all on surf - Some of our best days can come in early Spring, and in addition.... when the chance of that elusive tropical swell presents itself-- just hook 'em up and go!
Just a small blow straight up the Gulf to Pensacola, and we will be dripping in swell.
And...... the rubber comes off, and the sun comes out, and that's the bomb.
Surf is the source. | |
