| Could realistically be 8-10' at your usual spots, I think.
Time for careful planning is now, for your surf and your life.

| Better off paying attention to Chris and some of us who have been around awhile. Sites like swell info, buoyweather, magic seaweed etc.. are pretty clueless when it comes to Tx surf. | |

| OK, I get where you are coming from. We can definitely have a high frustration level with our surf, no doubt.
Especially on Friday, I think we stand a chance of seeing some nice size swells with a little tropical punch. Maybe even still sweet on Sat. Maybe even smallish, clean and still good on Sun!! Can be good for us here in Texas. Notice all the "Maybes"?
Be sure and let us know if you get to hitch a ride on some of those sunbeams.

| I am thinking about getting a body board to have when the waves are shit. I drive over 400 miles to surf, and just want to get the most out of my trip. | |

| Right on, Maddsurf-- keep that going and you'll be A-OK
I tried like heck to get into that bodyboarding thing for the very same reasons-- long trips-- make it worthwhile in varying surf conditions.
Spent some money - tried and tried-- just couldn't make it feel right.
They are great for the small kids, though.

| I've got my surfboard for sale right now cause I'm looking to get a bodyboard. Surfing is cool but I think I'd catch more waves on a bodyboard. As long as you're catching a wave is all that matters.
Hey Oceanby, what kind of bodyboard did you have? I'm trying to decide what to go with.

| Hey gypsyseagod...what did you mean in your comment? I surf and bodyboard and enjoy both. Some breaks are just not the best, and the Gulf coast is an area not known for great surf. Not to take anything away from the area, but I grew up in So. Cali where the waves had punch, and you didn't have to paddle out into 8 breaks at 5 sec. to get outside. It wears your ass out!!! | |

| Hi there -
To get a good idea of some of the best, I would look at beckersurf.com, under the "boards and gear" section. You can go from $45 to $300. Then you got to have a good set of fins, minimum. Next, you better work hard on your swimming!!! I'll tell you the truth here--- I think you're gonna find our style of wave speed, strength, size, etal, working off the sandy bottom we have, is as much of a problem for good bodyboarding as it is for surfing.
Then the bottom line. I noticed yesterday how many surfers were in the water on a regular Friday. A ton of guys and girls, each one good, but for everyone out, there was an equal number of individual styles. No one looked the same, but they were all doing the same thing. That ability to express total individualism is how I got hooked on surfing.
I could never get that anywhere else.

| It is a lot harder took bodyboard on these "crappy texas waves" than it is to ride a decent size longboard. I suggest that if you want a bodyboard go to your local surfshop or even academy and get yourself a sort surfboard then you have the best of both worlds... | |
