| For those of us who are relative newbies, what does "disorganized" surf mean in the surf report? It said "very disorganized." Like, narrow, broken-up waves you can't stay on.....? I'm not yet completely up on the surf report jargon.
Thanks,

| It could mean allot of things but generally it means the opposite of clean lined up waves. The waves are somewhat broken into pieces coming in from sometimes different directions. Not always but usually this is caused be high winds not pushing directly straight into the shore or off shore. | |

| As SJ was saying, Disorganized means broken up swell, not clean defined lines coming in organized sets. This is caused by wind. | |

| Imagine yourself the size of a GI Joe doll (Kung Fu grip is optional, but highly recommended -- good for holding on while duck-diving) and you are in the water on your 8inch mini-gun and a boat circles around and around, creating waves that are bumping up all over but without predictability or purpose - just sloshing about. That is disorganized. As opposed to the wake wave that results as a boat passes by horizontal to the shore and creates a neat long line that peels in perfection down a miniature point of rocks jutting out. And you imagining that you are GI Joe surfing that 1 foot tube to perfection...
BTW any surfer worth his salt has had this daydream while watching mini-waves peel off on a lake or other body of water... | |
